“Chinese Pleasures”

All who saw her retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum in 2006 know….Betty Woodman’s work in clay, on paper and in print, is colorful, inventive and exuberant. Her lithograph “Chinese Pleasures” is no exception. Woodman’s mastery of lithographic washes uses the full range of tonalities and textures to create delicate fields of pale color along with dense, rich patterns. Her brush work on the litho plates, with strokes that are both sure and loose, relates closely to her glazing of the ceramic pieces. “Chinese Pleasures” has been printed in twelve colors from ten plates on white Rives BFK with multiple chine collé papers in an edition of 30 plus proofs. The paper and image size are 25¾ x 46¼”
